Quarantine Activities with Toddlers
We have been surviving these past few weeks with both of us working and having our little one home. We have created new routines and a somewhat flexible schedule (read more).
It has been so challenging managing work and caring for a toddler all at the same time. Our schedules and daily routines have been shaken up but I am trying to make the most of this and creating time to make new memories. Once I knew daycare would be closing, I ordered a few craft supplies to keep our little one entertained. I want to share a few of those activities with you!
We are focusing on shapes, colors and knowing personal facts (name, last name, city, mom & daddy’s name etc). I only speak to her in Spanish so I have been reinforcing that more with our activities.
Supplies:
Activity #1
Pick a color of the week. Draw an item of that color on the paper and cut strings of yarn and use glue to fill in the shape. We started with red and used red yarn to fill it in. As she was glueing it to the paper we talked about the color red and how all the things he was using were red: tomato, paper and yarn. We did the same for an apple and also talked about both of these being round like a circle.
Activity #2
Part 1: Go on a leave scavenger hunt/walk around the neighborhood! Take a small bag for the littles to collect their findings. During the walk talk about the shape, size and color of the leaves.
Part 2: Once you get back home & wash hands. Get a piece of paper and paste the leaves to the paper with glue. Once the glue is completely dry, proceed to Part 3. I placed the dried pieces of paper under a heavy book to help fatten out the leaves. Don’t forget to wash hands again once done!
Part 3: Get the washable paint, brushes and a disposable plate. Place a drop of all the colors and practice the colors out loud. Encourage the littles to paint on or around the leaves.
Activity #3
Pick a color of the week. Draw an item of that color on the paper and cut small pieces of that color. Use glue and the pieces of paper to fill in the shape. We picked green this time! As she was glueing it to the paper Daddy talked to her about the color green!
These activities are so simple and easy to do with things you have around the house. Do you have any favorite activities you can share with us?
